“I do this weird exercise that I like,” he explains. However, because Xbox turned 20 and Skyrim is turning 10, there’s another problem that Howard and the company are facing-topping Skyrim. While they’re not perfect, they’re certainly more polished than some of the games that Bethesda’s been putting out. With Xbox backing the company, there’s a good possibility that the company will be held to the standard of Xbox’s games. While The Elder Scrolls 6 is farther out, being that it’s the next title after Starfield, they’re working to ensure that the game will be the best it can be. Todd Howard also spoke in the interview, talking about The Elder Scrolls 6 and how they’re planning on using parts of Starfield in the new game. That would be true when I think about any of our franchises.” And that would be true when I think about Elder Scrolls 6. “It’s not about punishing any other platform like I fundamentally believe all of the platforms can continue to grow, But to be on Xbox, I want us to be able to bring the full complete package of what we have. Considering that Deathloop and Psychonauts 2 were brought to the PlayStation platform in conjunction with Xbox, Xbox doesn’t seem worried about putting some of their titles on PlayStation. And when mentioning the game after Elder Scrolls 6, Spencer mentions that it’s probably going to be the same for that title as well.ĭoes it mean that they’re going to take some of the biggest series and keep them Xbox only? It may seem that way, but there’s a chance that they might not do that. Bethesda’s next massive title Starfield is going to be exclusive to PC and Xbox. However, now that Deathloop is out of the way, nothing stops them from making their future titles exclusives. Changing that due to the company’s acquisition would be in bad faith for the consumer. Ironically, it was the plan before the buyout. With the purchase of Bethesda, Xbox will have its titles on the platform from the start, aside from Deathloop, which launched as a PC and PS5 exclusive. Having them working for Xbox is now more of the same. Bethesda worked with Xbox to make their games for that platform first, then ported them to the other consoles second. It’s not a bad move for the company or Xbox, seeing that the two gaming companies have held an unofficial partnership in the industry. However, by buying out Zenimax, they were also getting Bethesda. And then it will be an improved, more stable version of the game.In the interview, Spencer mentions that purchase of Bethesda was in part the purchase of Zenimax Media, the parent company. Not to mention that it will probably find its way onto the current PlayStation console sooner or later. However, the Xbox and PC exclusivity of The Elder Scrolls 6 may well prove to be a stroke of luck in the end. There are also plenty of valid criticisms of exclusivity as a concept. Of course, there’s no guarantee that the extra time and focus on consoles alone will be as beneficial as it sounds. However, the final game could be much more polished than its cross-platform predecessors. Bugs are probably inevitable for any large-scale game like TES 6. They can also spend this time on testing and bug fixing. Xbox and PC exclusivity, therefore, frees up more time for developers. However, it does mean a lot of extra work for cross-platform game developers. This is not a problem for PS5-only games. PlayStation 5, on the other hand, uses its own operating system. This makes it relatively easy to develop games that can be played on both. Both use the same development tools and programming interfaces. Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S run on a modified version of the Windows 10 operating system. The simple fact is that getting a game out on multiple platforms takes a lot of extra time, work and money. But that could be a good thing for the quality of the game. PlayStation fans are right to fret that The Elder Scrolls 6 may not be coming to PS5. The Elder Scrolls 6 could benefit from exclusivity However, the likely Xbox exclusivity of TES 6 could result in a much more polished look when the new game finally launches. Bethesda’s open-world RPGs are notoriously buggy, as anyone who has played one can attest. Still, while this may be unfortunate news for PlayStation fans, it could also be an unexpected positive. While Microsoft and Bethesda have yet to confirm fully, TES 6 will likely be PC and Xbox exclusive. However, Xbox and PC users can at least say they’ll be able to play it sooner rather than later. But there’s still no release date in sight. And the announcement trailer for the sixth instalment debuted at E3 2018. Skyrim turned ten years old at the end of 2021. Fans have been waiting a long time for The Elder Scrolls 6.
